Greenford alumnus engineering a difference

Former Greenford student Navjot Sawhney returned to the school to talk about his groundbreaking Washing Machine Project.

The Washing Machine Project is a grassroots social enterprise based on Navjot’s invention of a hand-cranked washing machine that can be shipped and used anywhere in the world. It aims to alleviate the burden of handwashing clothes and empower women by providing remote, low income and displaced communities with an accessible, off-grid washing solution: The Divya Washing Machine. You can find out more about the Washing Machine Project on their website.

Navjot spoke to Greenford about his career journey, what makes a good engineer and his memories of Greenford High School:

Navjot is part of our new alumni network powered by Future First. We are encouraging all of our former students to join the network and if possible give something back to the school by volunteering at a careers event or offering a work experience placement to a current student.
