Preparation for A-Level Art

To develop your visual language skills in preparation for A level, you are required to create a 'visual art journal' which reflects aspects of your own life and personality in a small A5 sketchbook or altered book (a 'ready-made' book which you are able to collage/paint over/stick things in).

Use a combination of drawings, photos paintings and text/words to illustrate the suggested themes in the PowerPoint using a range of materials, techniques and processes.
Ensure you follow the PowerPoint which matches the course you have picked!

3: Mathematics Resit to Improve Your Grade:

These resources are for those students who wish to sit their GCSE maths exam to improve their grade.
The 'Aiming for....' booklets are designed for students who are aiming for a specific grade. For example, if you are aiming for grade 5, then you need to ensure that you have completed Grade 1, 3 and 5 booklets in addition to the material your teachers have already given you before they left in March.

Preparation for A Level Media

If you're thinking of studying A Level Media Studies, there are a large variety of activities you can do over the next few months to help prepare for post-16 study.

Just like GCSE Media, our A Level Media course is blog-based. You will complete the majority of the work on your A Level Media blogs and all our tasks and notes are available on our main blog hub Media Macguffin. The first thing you can do is take a look at the A Level Media blogs to get an idea of the work we do:

The best A Level Media students have a good understanding of the world around us and the wider media landscape. The way to develop this understanding is simply engaging with the media on a daily basis. The following activities will really help with this:

Read the news every day - the BBC website is always a good, free starting point. You should also visit the Guardian website regularly and also consider news websites with different or neutral political perspectives such as MainOnline or the i Newspaper website.  

Watch critically acclaimed films and TV series - both are media topics that are covered in A Level Media. 

Read through copies of Media Magazine - a dedicated magazine for A Level Media students that we have a subscription to at Greenford. You can find our Media Magazine archive here. 

Preparation activities

We are very lucky that the brilliant people at Media Magazine have created a whole booklet of articles tasks designed to prepare students for A Level Media. You can find the Media Magazine A Level preparation activity booklet here.

Work through these tasks by reading the article and then answering the questions. It's up to you how you do this - you may want to simply make brief notes or bullet points or type up well-deveoped answers and email them to us to start a discussion. It's completely up to you!

Preparation for BTEC Sport (equivalent to one A-Level)

If you are thinking of studying Sport next year there are a variety of things for you to consider and start enhancing your bank of sporting knowledge. 

You will build on your knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology from GCSE, but also introduce topics from the world of Sport Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Sports Coaching and Fitness programming.

Preparation for Psychology

If you would like to study Psychology next year, you should work your way through these two work books.  The first introduces you to the different schools of thought, or approaches, that psychologists have in explaining why we behave the way that we do.  The second workbook is an online course that you can do that allows you to print a certificate at the end.  It is likely that many of you are unable to print off the workbooks at home during this period. In this case, write your answers out on paper clearly. Bring both your answers and your certificate (from the online course) to the first lesson at the start of term in September.

Preparation for A-Level Sociology
 
If you are interested in A-Level Sociology, you have three resources to work through independently as we know you haven't studied GCSE Sociology and don't have a GCSE Sociology teacher.

This is a massively over-subscribed course so you might need to show us this completed work to get onto our course.

You should complete the work in this order:

1. A-Level Sociology Prep Booklet for Y11. This introduces key concepts and some theory which are fundamental to Sociology as an academic discipline. Any links you need are in the booklet. For some of the answers, you will need to search online to see what you can find. You can print the booklet off and handwrite your answers or you can type into the document and print it when you've finished.

2. Sociology A-Level Prep - Natives by Akala. This is a brilliant book which delves deeper into key sociological issues such as ethnicity and social class. Again, you can print the booklet off handwrite your answers or you can type into the document and print it when you've finished.
